Import and Visualize Data

Connecting Oracle Data Visualization to Snowflake involves several steps to ensure a seamless integration between the two platforms. This process typically includes setting up a Snowflake data source, configuring connection parameters, and verifying the connection within Oracle Data Visualization.

Step 1: Set Up a Snowflake Data Source

  1. Create a Snowflake Account (if not already done)
  • Visit the Snowflake website and sign up for an account if you don't already have one.
  • Set up your Snowflake environment including databases, warehouses, and roles as per your requirements.

    2. Generate Snowflake Credentials

  • Ensure you have the necessary credentials to connect to Snowflake, including:
  • Username
  • Password
  • Account name
  • Warehouse name
  • Database name
  • Schema name
  • Optionally, you may need a security token or key if using key-based authentication.

    3. Configure the ODBC Data Source

  • Open the ODBC Data Source Administrator on your machine.
  • Add a new Data Source Name (DSN) for Snowflake.
  • Enter the required connection details:
  • Data Source Name: A name for the ODBC connection.
  • User: Your Snowflake username.
  • Server: Your Snowflake account URL (e.g., xyz12345.snowflakecomputing.com).
  • Database: The default database to use.
  • Schema: The default schema to use.
  • Warehouse: The default warehouse to use.
  • Test the connection to ensure it is set up correctly.

Step 2: Install and Configure the Snowflake ODBC Driver

  1. Download the Snowflake ODBC Driver
  • Go to the Snowflake documentation or directly to the Snowflake ODBC driver download page.
  • Download the appropriate driver for your operating system.

    2. Install the ODBC Driver

  • Follow the installation instructions provided by Snowflake to install the driver on your machine.
  • After installation, configure the ODBC driver with the necessary connection parameters.

    3. Enter Connection Details

  • Enter a name for your connection.
  • Select the ODBC DSN that you configured for Snowflake.
  • Enter your Snowflake username and password.
  • Optionally, enter additional connection properties if required.

     4. Test the Connection

  • Click the Test Connection button to ensure that Oracle DV can successfully connect to Snowflake using the provided details.
  • If the connection test is successful, proceed to save the connection.

    5. Save and Use the Connection

  • Save the connection configuration.
  • Use this connection to import data from Snowflake into Oracle Data Visualization for analysis and visualization purposes.

Step 3: Connect Oracle Data Visualization to Snowflake

  1. Open Oracle Data Visualization
  • Launch Oracle Data Visualization (DV) on your system.

     2. Add a New Data Connection

  • Go to the Home page and click on the Create button.
  • Select Connection to create a new data connection.

     3. Choose the Connection Type

  • From the list of available connection types, select ODBC.

Step 4: Import and Visualize Data

  1. Import Data from Snowflake
  • Go to the Data page in Oracle DV.
  • Select the Snowflake connection you created.
  • Browse the available databases, schemas, and tables in Snowflake.
  • Import the desired datasets into Oracle DV.

    2. Create Visualizations

  • Use the imported data to create various visualizations and dashboards in Oracle DV.
  • Leverage Oracle DV's tools and features to analyze and present your Snowflake data effectively.
